Cirque du Soleil confirmed on August 15 that Mad Apple will take its final bow at New York-New York on Saturday, September 5, 2026. It's a quieter ending than the show deserves — Mad Apple opened May 12, 2022, as Cirque's first Las Vegas resident production to weave stand-up comedy into its acrobatics, live band, and dance, and it went on to welcome more than 1.2 million guests over its four-year run.

Why It's Closing

This one isn't about the show itself — it's about the math behind it. Production-show ticket sales at MGM Resorts venues have slid from roughly 65% capacity a decade ago to around 30% today, and a slowdown in international tourism has hit Cirque particularly hard, since visitors from outside the U.S. have historically made up a large share of its audience. Mad Apple's own theater told the story: the upper balcony had already been closed off due to soft demand, quietly shrinking the 1,200-seat room to somewhere between 600 and 800 seats a night.

Cirque du Soleil says it's working with Mad Apple's artists, technicians, and crew on transition support, including redeployment opportunities across its other global productions where possible.

"Shows close in this town — that's not new. What stings about Mad Apple is the timing. It found its footing, built a real following, and got cut loose right as the room was clicking. If you've been meaning to see it, don't wait for a 'next time' that isn't coming."

What This Means for Cirque in Vegas

Mad Apple's closure doesn't touch Cirque's broader footprint on the Strip. The company will continue running four resident productions in Las Vegas after September 5:

Cirque has also said it's developing its "next generation" of Las Vegas shows, though nothing concrete has been announced yet. As for the Mad Apple theater itself, MGM Resorts hasn't said whether it'll bring in a new production or repurpose the space entirely — which, given the room's central Strip location, is going to be one of the more interesting real estate questions in Vegas entertainment over the next year.

Last Chance to See It

Mad Apple runs through September 5, 2026 at New York-New York. If you want to catch the final weeks — or the closing show itself — don't wait on this one.
