Have you seen Penn & Teller before?

The show evolves every season — new material cycles in, old bits get retired, and the stuff that stays gets sharper. If you're a Fool Us viewer, some of what you've seen on TV shows up live here first. The post-show meet-and-greet is still happening — if you missed it last time, stay for it. Worth it every time.

Penn & Teller have been performing together since 1975. They have their own dedicated theater at the Rio — not a showroom, a theater named after them — and they've been selling it out for 21 years. Penn talks. Teller doesn't. They expose how magic tricks work while simultaneously fooling you with tricks you can't explain even after they tell you how it's done. That's not a description. That's the whole thing. Go see it.

About Penn & Teller

Penn Jillette and Teller have been performing together since 1975. The partnership produced a smash Broadway run, a decade-spanning television career, multiple Emmys, and a Las Vegas residency at the Rio that is now in its 21st year — one of the longest-running shows in Las Vegas history. The Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio isn't a showroom they were booked into. It was built for them and named after them. That's a different category of institution from what else is on the Strip.

🌵
Spike's Take $90 for 90 minutes of the two most famous magicians in the world performing in a theater named after them. The center orchestra is where the sight lines are optimal for both the close-up work and the larger stage pieces. Penn & Teller also do a post-show meet-and-greet in the lobby — stick around. It's one of the better things about this show and most people walk past it.

The format is Penn & Teller doing magic — deconstructed, satirized, and occasionally explained while still being inexplicable. Penn handles all the talking, with the sarcasm and provocation that made them a counterculture act before Las Vegas claimed them. Teller performs in complete silence. The combination is 50 years in the making and it still doesn't feel like a product that's coasting. They host Penn & Teller: Fool Us on The CW, where magicians from around the world attempt to baffle them — the best of those acts sometimes end up on stage in Las Vegas. The show contains some strong language.

What to Expect

🎩 Magic That Explains Itself
Penn & Teller's defining move is exposing how magic tricks work — and then fooling you anyway. They'll show you the mechanics of a sleight of hand technique, demonstrate exactly how a card trick operates, and then do it again in a way you still can't explain. The transparency is the trick. It's been working for 50 years because it's genuinely clever, not just a gimmick.
🎤 Penn Talks. Teller Doesn't.
Penn Jillette is 6'7" and one of the loudest voices in Las Vegas. Teller has never spoken on stage in 50 years of performing. Penn's sarcasm and provocation are part of the format — this show has an attitude about traditional magic and doesn't hide it. The show contains strong language. Not aggressive, but definitely Penn being Penn. Know that going in and you'll enjoy it more.
📺 Fool Us Meets Las Vegas
Penn & Teller host Fool Us on The CW, where magicians from around the world attempt to perform tricks the duo can't figure out. The best acts from that show sometimes end up performing in Las Vegas — meaning the live show occasionally features guest magicians who have genuinely baffled Penn and Teller on television. When that happens, it's a remarkable thing to watch.
🤝 Post-Show Meet & Greet
Penn and Teller come out to the lobby after every show to meet the audience, sign autographs, and take photos. This is not a VIP add-on or an upcharge — it's standard practice and has been for years. Stay in your seat until the house lights come up and then head to the lobby. Most people don't know this happens and miss it. Now you know.

⭐ Sidekick Pick
The main center section of the Penn & Teller Theater — the Sidekick Pick. Orchestra Center gives you the optimal sight line for both the close-up card and sleight-of-hand work at the front of the stage and the larger set-piece illusions that fill the full performance area. Penn & Teller perform facing the audience directly, which means center positioning delivers the full intended experience of every bit. This is where Spike sits.
The flanking side sections of the orchestra level, running parallel to the stage on the left and right. Angled toward center rather than straight-on, which changes how some of the performance reads — particularly close-up work where the positioning of hands and cards is part of what makes the trick work visually. Still solid orchestra-level seats; center positions within each section are preferable to the outer rows.
The raised rear section of the Penn & Teller Theater. Elevated above the orchestra, which gives you a wider angle on the full stage picture and can actually work well for certain large-scale illusions where height helps you see the full effect. The tradeoff is distance from the performers during close-up segments. The mezzanine is a legitimate viewing position — not a compromise seat — but center orchestra is where the show is most precisely calibrated to land.

Frequently Asked

Yes — they come out to the lobby after every performance to meet guests, sign autographs, and take photos. This is not a VIP upcharge or a special add-on. It's standard practice at every show and has been for years. Stay after the curtain and head to the lobby. Most guests don't know this happens and leave immediately — you shouldn't. It's one of the better things about this show.
Teller began performing silently early in his career as a survival strategy — he worked in rowdy bars where talking got heckled, and silence kept the audience watching. It worked well enough that it became the act. He does speak in real life. On stage, the silence has been the foundation of his performance character for 50 years. Penn handles all the words. The division of labor is the whole dynamic.
Ages 5 and older are welcome, but the show contains some strong language — this is Penn Jillette, whose sarcasm and bluntness are baked into the format. It's not aggressive content, but it's worth knowing that the show skews adult in sensibility. For kids who are specifically magic fans, the show is a genuinely memorable experience. For younger children who aren't specifically engaged by magic, the 90-minute runtime and mature tone may be challenging.
Still photos may be welcome — check with your usher before you pull out a camera. Flash photography is strictly prohibited. Video recording is not permitted. If an usher asks you to stop, put the phone away. Penn & Teller also do a post-show meet-and-greet in the lobby, which is a natural and clearly permitted photo opportunity.
The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino is located at 3700 W Flamingo Rd, just west of the Strip — about a 5-minute drive or rideshare from the center of Las Vegas Boulevard. The Rio has its own parking structure on the property. The Penn & Teller Theater is inside the Rio; follow signage once you enter the property.
Refunds are available for exceptional circumstances such as the unlikely event that a show cancels. Check the full terms and conditions before purchasing.
